The Day My Box of Books Arrived.
On a recent sunny day with a cold breeze, I received a call from the DHL delivery driver, who told me he was waiting outside with a package. And that’s when everything began.
I rushed to open my shipment from Amazon and saw my first author copies of All Aboard the English Train. Words cannot describe the rush of emotions I felt at that moment.
I felt a mix of:
– joy and anticipation for what is to come
– accomplishment and a thirst to achieve more goals
– the happiness that my dream had been realized despite several setbacks
– responsibility for developing these teaching tools and a commitment to creating more English Train publications
That moment was one of the most exciting in my life. I realized that the books were finally alive, they were real, and they were in my hands. The hard work of designs and redesigns with my team, additions, deletions, and scheduling a publication date, had paid off.
And there they were: 10 beautifully crafted books waiting to be unsealed from their plastic wrap. Publications based on a sound-first approach to learning the English language and designed to help children.
Many wonderful women helped bring The English Train books to completion. I would like to credit Asmaa and Mahitab. Their work was challenging, but they did a beautiful job with the books’ illustrations. I would also like to credit April, whose edits were priceless. I’d like to acknowledge and thank the women who lit the initial spark: Ms. Amany Ashour and Ms. Safeyya Falah, the women in charge of the school I worked at as a volunteer, as well as my friend, Radwa. Thank you, team, we still have a lot of work on the horizon. This is just the beginning, and I am truly grateful for all your efforts. I feel thankful to God, above all.
As I turn each page, I understand this milestone was the first of many to come. I know each milestone will require the work of a talented team, and I feel content, happy, and excited for the future.
And now, you might wonder, after all the excitement surrounding that package, “Okay, so what happened to that famous box? Did Rasha set it aside someplace special?”
While the books were my treat, the box is now my cats’. It has become their bed and their chew toy! Enjoy the picture.
…. And that was the day my books arrived.
